Transmat, Incorporated operates a network of stations around the galaxy that allow people and goods to be instantly transported across light-years' distance. For years, Ed Reese has operated the station on Crawford IX, a bucolic, peaceful place that suits him just fine. When circumstances force him to travel to Earth, he finds that adjusting to the big-city life 12 years after he last set foot on the planet... well, just isn't that easy.
