Comments
A novelette set in the same alternate world in roughly the same time period as The Gate of Worlds. This one centers on the intrigues surrounding the imminent death of the Emir of Songhay, a powerful kingdom in West Africa. Once again, we have an innocent Englishman thrown into an exotic situation he does not comprehend, caught up in the scheming of Russians, Aztecs, Turks, power-hungry princes, and his fellow English. A lot of fun, full of rich detail and convincing alternate world speculations.
